The piecing is made with black and white solids. The secondary pattern added with hand embroidery is really amazing!

I especially liked the black and white checks, stripes and grid in Jazz Riffs by Annie Hudnut @anniehudnut.

Special exhibit

Victoria Findlay Wolfe was the featured artist this year and she had a special exhibit. We went to her lecture which was a look back on her quilting journey. It was really interesting to hear about her process and she shared a lot of insights, pictures and funny anecdotes. Here is one of my favourite from her quilts hung at the show, The Happy Wanderer.

Austin

As we did last year, we arrived there four days prior the opening of the show. So we had time to visit Austin and we also went to the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange which was a tour organized by the Modern Quilt Guild.

We went just for a coffee and for breakfast at the famous Driskill Hotel (known to be haunted !), but that’s my kind of hotel ! 🙂

  1. Thank you for sharing so many great photos of the amazing quilts…it's so good to see Quiltcon thru your eyes, especially as I am in Australia and don't have a chance to visit the show.
    Congratulations on your win!

  2. More lovely pictures! I think we have same of the same "favorites" in our blog posts. It's really nice that you could see more of Austin while you were there too. My son lives in Austin, so I've been able to visit a lot of great sites, but I haven't gone to the ones you did. Thanks for helping me add to my "must see in Austin" list! Did you buy boots? I'd love to have a pair, but cannot imagine ever wearing them in Florida! I'm more of a barefoot or sandals kind of gal. 🙂

  3. Thanks for showing a few more of your favorite quilts. And also for the pictures of Austin. If I can manage another time, I would also love some time before the show to see the city. I see I totally missed out on a few things 🙂 xo Melanie
