Improv Score #4 – Top finished

Here are some news about my Score #4, an improv’ exercise I am working on following Sherri Lynn Wood’s book.

I completed the top today. After exploring five different blocks, I decided to piece the units together. You can see here the units before I sewed them. I thought it sounded a little busy … I tried then to calm this effect by surrounding my units with neutrals in different tones.

I hope I can reach more cohesion between all elements with the help of the quilting.

Sophie has caught up the last few weeks and is now piecing blocks for Score #4 ! I like very much how she added striped elements when she pieced her Drunkard’s path blocks together.

She completed her quilts for the first two exercises as well. I love the pop of bright pink and the addition of the black and white striped fabric in her Score #2. Beautiful texture due to the straight lines quilting.

  2. I really like your Score #4. Your background solution worked well. Also effective is the snowball block echoing the curve of the drunkard's path blocks–both contrasting with squares and rectangles. Your control of color really helped too. I'd skipped from #1 to the curve scores–maybe I should go back and have a try.

  3. Les deux Sophie sont des "pros" de l'improvisation ! Les quilts de ton amie sont vraiment très réussis, tant par le quilting que les tissus.
Et que dire du tien ? Rien ! Car comme d'habitude j'adore 😉

  4. Your score 4 is a very impressive finish. When you were making the different blocks you used very good subtle color choices. The addition of the neutrals is just what it needed to calm it down, as you said. I have seen some scores done by others and I think this one is my favorite so far.

  5. I like your score 4 and love the interesting colours you have used.I wouldn't have thought of using the neutrals in this way, to create a bit of calm and coherence, but it works well. I also like Sophie's work, especially her completed score 2. I agree with you that the tiny bits of pink and the black and white work very successfully with the greens – very fresh and clean.

  6. I love the way you have chosen to use the different block types, and an interesting way to use colour too, the pop of pink gives an added depth. I like your use of neutrals too, the way they frame the quilt but different to a traditional style of border. I look forward to seeing it quilted. I like Sophie's score 2, especially the sides of green and neutrals she has chosen to use. I haven't done score 2 yet but I'm planning to maybe start it in September.

  7. It's wonderful Sophie! I love the soft colour palette and the rhythms you've created. It doesn't look too busy at all, just perfect in fact! I hope you'll hand quilt it too, you quilt so beautifully (the 'other Sophie's' hand quilting is very inspiring too). x

  8. It's lovely like this; there is so much to look at. You've managed the relationship between the various elements wonderfully well. Congratulations, and good luck with the quilting.
