In Conversation at EPM

Last week I headed to Alsace in France for attending EPM. I was particularly eager to see Threaded Together, the exhibit from the In Conversation project, and was not disappointed!

La semaine dernière, je me suis rendue en Alsace pour visiter le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork. J’étais particulièrement impatiente de voir Threaded Together, l’exposition du projet In Conversation, et je n’ai pas été déçue !

Definitely a highlight of this year EPM!

Vraiment un coup de coeur du Carrefour de cette année !

The concept of the project, the artistic and technical quality, the variety of the pieces on display, the layout of the exhibit, … Everything was perfect!

Le concept du projet, la qualité artistique et technique, la variété des pièces exposées, la mise en place de l’exposition, … Tout était parfait !

Tara Glastonbury was inspired by the new opportunities given to artists through social media, leading to connections and collaborations. Tara invited six other Australian quilters to work with an international quilter of their choice they first connected with online.

Tara Glastonbury a été inspirée par les nouvelles opportunités données aux artistes par les réseaux sociaux, débouchant sur des liens et collaborations. Tara a invité six autres quilteurs australiens à travailler avec un quilteur international de leur choix, rencontré d’abord en ligne.

Then each pair had is own approach to the theme, sharing and collaborating to create connected quilts.

Ensuite, chaque paire a eu sa propre approche du thème, en partageant et collaborant pour créer des quilts en connexion.

For the second time this year, I had the opportunity of seeing an improv piece made by Daisy Aschehoug and loved this new aspect of her work.

Pour la deuxième fois cette année, j’ai eu l’occasion de voir une pièce improvisée créée par Daisy Aschehoug et j’ai adoré ce nouvel aspect de son travail.

In addition to the main project, Tara invited everyone interested in to submit a mini quilt on the same theme. Eighteen pieces were selected and traveled as part of the exhibit. These two were made by my friends Cheri Mansperger (pictured top) and Sophie Thomas (pictured bottom).

En plus du projet principal, Tara a invité toutes les personnes intéressées à soumettre un mini quilt sur le même thème. Dix-huit pièces ont été retenues et ont voyagé dans le cadre de l’exposition. Ces deux-là ont été réalisées par mes amies Cheri Mansperger (en haut de la photo) and Sophie Thomas (en bas de la photo).

The exhibit had been on display in three different venues in Australia and ended its tour at EPM. I am proud that Twenty-Nine had been a part of it! Click on the link if you’d like to read (again) about the story and inspiration behind my Twenty-Nine mini quilt.

Victoria Findlay Wolfe

Amazing pieces at Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s solo exhibit. I have always admired her take on the traditional Double Wedding Rings quilts.

Des pièces étonnantes à l’exposition solo de Victoria Findlay Wolfe. J’ai toujoirs admiré ses interprétations des quilts traditionnels Anneaux de Mariage.

Ocean Contest

I still can’t believe my favorite quilt from the contest won EPM grand prize … Congratulations to Ekaterina Bessarabova!

Irina Timofeeva

Great visual impact and amazing craftmanship in this piece by Irina Timofeeva. Still blown away as each circle is pieced and perfectly made (I looked very closely!) …

Super impact visuel et réalisation incroyable dans cette pièce de Irina Timofeeva. Encore époustouflée car chaque cercle est piécé avec une réalisation parfaite (j’ai examiné de très près !) …

Helma Huisman-Hildebrand

I loved the colours in this replica of an Amish quilt dating from 1895, beautifully made by Helma Huisman-Hildebrand. I especially liked the use of different shades of the same colour and how some of the blocks are disappearing in the background.

J’ai adoré les couleurs dans cette réplique d’un quilt Amish datant de 1895, magnifiquement réalisé par Helma Huisman-Hildebrand. J’ai spécialement apprécié l’utilisation de différents tons dans une même couleur et comme certains blocs disparaissent dans le fond.

As always, a varied programme for this year edition of EPM. And what a treat to spend time with friends and meet new people!

Comme toujours, un programme varié pour cette édition du Carrefour. Et quel plaisir de passer du temps avec des amis et de faire de nouvelles rencontres !
