July Recap

I just took a three days off for hiking in July and so ended up with some time to progress on my quilting projects 🙂

Comme j’ai pris seulement trois jours de vacances pour une rando j’ai eu du temps en juillet pour avancer mes projets patchwork 🙂

Quiltcon Fabric Challenge

Sophie and I had planned a sew day at the beginning of July for working on our Quiltcon Fabric Challenge projects. As I shared in my previous post, all my pieces were cut and so I managed to complete the top in a day.

Sophie et moi avions planifié une journée couture début juillet pour travailler sur nos projets Quiltcon Fabric Challenge. Comme je l’avais montré dans mon article précédent, toutes mes pièces étaient déjà coupées et j’ai donc réussi à terminer le top dans la journée.

Voici un aperçu du projet de Sophie.

I spent a few hours quilting my project these past days and was ready to trim it earlier today. As often, my piece shrunk somewhat because of the quilting. Unfortunately not evenly … which distorted a bit the design, especially the top left corner. I traced a cutting line with a marker on all four sides, trying to get a pretty much square piece while reducing the distortion, at least visually. Not too bad I think. Then I stitched along the traced line to secure my seams and quilting lines before trimming.

J’ai passé quelques heures à quilter mon projet ces derniers jours et j’étais prête à l’égaliser un peu plus tôt aujourd’hui. Comme souvent, ma pièce a un peu rétréci à cause du quilting. Malheureusement pas de manière uniforme … ce qui a un peu déformé le design, en particulier le coin en haut à gauche. J’ai tracé une ligne de coupe avec un crayon sur les quatre côtés, en essayant d’obtenir une pièce à peu prêt carrée tout en réduisant la déformation, au moins visuellement. Pas trop mal, je pense. J’ai ensuite cousu le long de la ligne pour sécuriser mes coutures d’assemblage et mes lignes de quilting avant d’égaliser.

Improv Strips Project

As I already mentioned, I had a lot of doubts about the hand stitches I wanted to add to this project. I wasted a lot of time procrastinating, making stitches and unpicking them straight away …

Comme je l’ai déjà mentionné, j’ai eu beaucoup d’hésitations à propos du quilting main que je voulais ajouter à ce projet. J’ai perdu beaucoup de temps à tergiverser, faire des points et les enlever directement …

I took it with me for a sew day, without any other project to be sidetracked by. Definitely a good solution … At the end of the day, I decided the quilting was completed. I am now hand stitching the binding onto the back.

Je l’ai emmené à une journée couture, sans autre projet pour me laisser distraire. Définitivement une bonne solution … A la fin de la journée, j’ai décidé que le quilting était finalisé. Je suis maintenant en train de fixer à la main le binding au dos du quilt.

Small Projects

I also worked on small projects for a change and made a batch of reusable gift bags. A bit like Christmas in July … I had bought this lovely collection, Polar Magic designed by Lemonni for Figo Fabrics, and was eager to make something with it!

J’ai aussi travaillé sur des petits projets pour changer et réalisé un lot de sachets cadeau réutilisables. C’était un peu Noël en juillet … J’avais acheté cette adorable collection, Polar Magic dessinée par Lemonni pour Figo Fabrics, et j’étais impatiente de faire quelque chose avec !

August is also going to be busy with sewing and quilting projects, a local quilt exhibit to visit and a trip to Festival of Quilts in Birmingham!

Août sera aussi bien occupé avec des projets couture et patchwork, une exposition locale à visiter et un voyage au Festival of Quilts de Birmingham!
