Carrefour European Patchwork Meeting 2026

I didn’t manage to see a lot from the Carrefour show and I do have regrets because this year’s program was particularly interesting in my opinion. But I was busy with my own exhibit as well as with the contest and chose to be present for my visitors as much as possible. Anyway I got to quickly visit a few exhibits of other artists and took some pictures though less than usual.

Sarah Hibbert

I have always admired Sarah’s work with linen and this quilt was my favourite from her exhibition Colour Works. This traditional Log Cabin block turned at an angle and cropped makes an amazing modern quilt!

Sarah Hibbert & her Harrison quilt

Sarah made fourteen new quilts for this exhibition, never shared on social media or exhibited before the Carrefour. I love how she reinterpretes traditional quilt blocks and patterns while adding her personal touch in the design and colour choices. The black & white striped fabric in the quilt pictured left is so effective and catch the eye. In all her pieces you can feel the warmth and comfort of a quilt and the human touch.

Amish Reimagined

An interesting collaboration between the International Quilt Museum (USA) and the Carrefour! Nine European artist were invited to reinterpret Amish quilts from the museum collection. The original Amish quilt and the modern twist were shown side by side.

I particularly appreciated Paola Machetta’s interpretation. She created a piece in her distinctive own style though with a strong relation to the original piece.

SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) – Wide Horizons no. 10 Exhibition

Every two years, the Europe & Middle East section of SAQA present their Wide Horizons exhibition, a collection of contemporary art quilts made by the members. This year was the tenth edition of this juried exhibition I would love to take part in some day.

I loved this piece, Resisting the Blues, by Miranda Renard. The intricate piecing, the unique finish and the use of colour make a striking piece.

Emilie Trahan

Carrefour European Patchwork Meeting 2026 - Emilie Trahan_Anatomy of Light Exhibition
Emilie Trahan

Emilie creates improvisional pieced quilts working on her huge compositions directly on the floor (instead of using a design wall). It is hard to guess it because the colours in her quilts are so vivid but she uses mainly second hand fabrics from charity shops, duvet covers, …

Her exhibition Anatomy of Light which explores the concept of light was just stunning!

Kelly Spell

I am including in this article only one view of Kelly’s exhibit entitled Full Circle. Please head over Kelly’s website for more pictures of her striking quilts. I love their minimalistic style and the craftsmanship of both piecing and quilting is amazing. Kelly wrote a blog post about her experience and also shared the planning and preparing work with a lot of details, especially useful if you consider submitting an application to exhibit at the Carrefour.

The Modern Quilt Guild – Selections from Quiltcon 2026

After Quiltcon, the annual quilt convention organized by the Modern Quilt Guild, a small selection from the show is invited to travel to different exhibition venues internationally. I was lucky to have this opportunity twice in the past. Anyway I was glad to see the travelling exhibition since I didn’t attend Quiltcon in 2026.

What a great transparency effect in this quilt by Maureen Garner!

If you fancy seeing more pictures, patCHquilt, the Swiss Quilter Association, put together an article about their member’s contribution to the Carrefour. You will find there the solo exhibits, the contributions to group as well as juried exhibits and this year challenge Play the Game. The challenge consisted in creating a board game and was presented on tables where visitors could sit at and play.

My friend Sophie Thomas exhibited a selection of her quilts in a small local gallery. She partnered with three artists who make glass beads. This was an interesting collaboration in terms of exhibition space. Sophie could use the wall for her quilts and the glass work was presented on shelves and different holders which livened up the gallery space.

Seventies, pictured right, was specifically made for the Quiltcon Fabric Challenge in 2025 and exhibited in Phoenix.

I enjoyed seeing Danielle Labarthe’s work exhibited as part of a local group exhibition in Nyon region. She mixes classical patchwork techniques and textile art work & mixed media.

Patchwork du Léman

I had a lovely time with friends at the Patchwork du Léman exhibition which is held every two years in Blonay.

Here is a piece made by Martine Mercier, inspired by Tara Faughnan’s work.

I particularly appreciated one of the challenges they had on display this year. The idea was to include in a 16″ x 16″ piece bits of cord which is normally used for paragliders. It was very interesting to see what solutions the participants came up with to use this type of cord which is too thick to be sewn in a classical way.

Sophie used a couching technique to attach the cord. Sonya inserted the cord inside double-sided circles and then attached the cord tails on the back of her piece.

Tu as raison, cette année était incroyable.
