Second Quilting Retreat

I had the opportunity to attend two quilting retreats this past October! One at the beginning of the month with my friends of Patchmania group and the second one organized by the Patchwork du Léman, in St-Maurice (Switzerland). I really enjoyed spending time with old friends and got to know better the other attendees.
Again I chose to work on small projects, mixing piecing and appliqué.

J’ai eu l’occasion de participer deux fois à des vacances patchwork au mois d’octobre ! La première au début du mois avec mes amies du groupe Patchmania et la deuxième organisée par le Patchwork du Léman, à St-Maurice (Suisse). J’ai beaucoup apprécié de passer du temps avec des amies et de faire plus connaissance avec les autres participantes.
A nouveau, j’ai choisi de travailler sur de petits projets, mélangeant appliqué et piécé.

I continued using this lovely Christmas collection from Ruby Star Fabrics. Future mug rugs on the left and a cushion on the right.

J’ai continué d’utiliser cette adorable collection de Noël de chez Ruby Star Fabrics. Futurs mug rugs à gauche et coussin à droite.

No chain piecing or rapid method since I wanted to fussy cut the patterns.

Pas d’assemblage à la chaîne ni de méthode de rapide car je voulais centrer les motifs.

I also worked from Carolyn Friedlander latest pattern, Bow, that I fell in love with … I adapted it to my needs though since I wanted to make a cushion.
Well now I am left with quite a few small tops to quilt …

J’ai aussi travaillé à partir du dernier modèle de Carolyn Friedlander, Bow, pour lequel j’ai craqué … Je l’ai cependant adapté à mes besoins car je voulais réaliser un coussin.
Bon maintenant je me retrouve avec pas mal de petits tops à quilter …

I had been a bit busy and did not spend much time at home these past weeks … Mid October I attended Nadelwelt show in Karlsruhe (Germany) which is usually held in Spring but was postponed in Fall.
Paola Zanda I spoke you about in this previous post had an exhibit in this show as well. She presented again pieces from her bark tree series, though this time more focused on colour theory than on the ‘hidden faces’. From left to right, Cold Colours, Neutral and Pastel.

J’ai été bien occupée et je n’ai pas passé beaucoup de temps à la maison ces dernières semaines … Mi octobre, j’ai visité le salon Nadelwelt à Karlsruhe (Allemagne) qui d’habitude a lieu au printemps mais avait été décalé en automne.
Paola Zanda dont je vous ai parlé dans cet article précédent avait une exposition dans ce salon également. Elle présentait à nouveau des pièces de sa série sur les écorces d’arbre, cependant cette fois plus focalisées sur la théorie des couleurs que sur les “visages cachés”. De gauche à droite, Cold Colours, Neutral et Pastel.

I really appreciated the exhibit put together by the local quilting group, Patchworkgruppe Karlsruhe.

I am usually not a fan of figurative work in textile, especially faces, but I liked the overall feel of Galla’s exhibit. My favourite piece …

Je ne suis d’habitude pas très fan du travail figuratif en textile, en particulier les visages, mais j’ai aimé l’effet d’ensemble de l’exposition de Galla. Ma pièce préférée …

As for the Europeen Patchwork Meeting held last September, the event was smaller than usual, especially the vendors area. In addition to that, some of the exhibitions were definitely lacking of lighting. A shame for both artists and visitors …
We decided to make the most of our trip anyway and visited the 8th European Quilt-Triennial on display at the Textile Museum in Heidelberg, which is one hour drive from Karlsruhe (no pictures since they were not allowed).
And on the way back home we stopped at the Vitra Design Museum, near Basel, which is worth a visit. The current special exhibit called Women in Design 1900 – Today was of particular interest.

De même que pour le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork qui a eu lieu en septembre dernier, l’événement était plus petit que d’habitude, particulièrement l’espace commercial. En plus, certaines expositions manquaient vraiment d’éclairage. Dommage autant pour les artistes que les visiteurs …
Nous avons décidé de profiter quand même au maximum de notre voyage et avons visité la 8ème Triennale Européenne de Patchwork exposée au Musée Textile de Heidelberg, qui est à une heure de route de Karlsruhe (les photos n’étaient pas autorisées).
Et sur le chemin du retour, nous avons fait un arrêt au Musée du Design Vitra, près de Bâle, qui vaut vraiment une visite. L’exposition temporaire actuelle sur les femmes Designers de 1900 à aujourd’hui était particulièrement intéressante.
